How To Know When To Give Up On Selling A Client A Home

By: Karrie Rose Home | Finance | Real Estate

Being a successful real estate agent takes a combination of skills and as anyone in the business will tell you, is not an easy job. To make the most of your career, you need to be charismatic and personable, finding clients the right home to buy and attracting new clients all the time.

One of the best ways to attract new clients and to help the clients that you have, is by having confidence in yourself and what you do. Some types of people can certainly undermine not only your confidence in yourself but also in what you're capable of doing for your clients.

Most everyone has in their lifetime met one of those people who can make hide an insult (none too subtly) inside any complement or make you feel about two inches tall every time they speak to you. We are all fortunate when those people are only acquaintances; however, some people have the distinct misfortune of having these people as clients.

Sometimes we hold far too long onto clients that don't make us feel worthwhile; if we're lucky, we can help them buy or sell their home quickly and efficiently, getting them out of our hair in record time. Unfortunately though, due to the dread that can come along with dealing with these types of people, sometimes it's difficult to get them the sale that they are looking for. Because so many agents are tenacious sorts of people who strive to do a good job for every client they have, it can be hard to admit defeat with a client who just doesn't mesh.

There are many hints that you might see that will suggest that you might want to cut your losses and move on to greener pastures. When the phone rings and your display shows that it's THAT customer you get a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, that's a sign that you should probably part ways. If you find yourself dragging your feet or otherwise not giving your best service to a customer because they rub you the wrong way so much, you should likely give them the proverbial pink slip as well; not only are you not doing them any favours but you are quite possibly tarnishing your own reputation in the process.

No matter how much you like or dislike a client, working to the full extent of your potential at all times will ensure that you have a good reputation and that people that you have done work for are likely to refer you to their friends. Trust your gut feelings when working with clients and don't be afraid to cut them loose if you find that you can't do your best for them; it'll save the both of you a lot of stress in the long run.
