How To Make A Bamboo Fountain Yourself

By: Bambi Johnson Home | Home-and-Family | Landscaping-Gardening

Having a bamboo fountain can add a certain magical ambiance to your home garden. This interesting fountain hails from Japan where it was devised by rice farmers as a way to frighten deer away from the rice paddies. Therefore, it isn't strange to know that they have been called "deer chasers".

Monks discovered an additional use for the bamboo fountain; this time as a way to time their mediations. With more people aware of the environment, the bamboo fountain is garnering more notice since it is made of environmentally friendly material. This point does not detract from the fountain's clear aesthetic charm. The bamboo fountain is a flexible model so you can use them both indoors and outdoors.

Constructing a bamboo fountain is easy and takes just a smaller number of parts to build. You will need bamboo, tubing, a pump, a base, rod, screws, and container. If you are constructing an outdoor bamboo fountain, it is wise to use a quality bamboo that will not break under variable weather conditions. When the bamboo fountain will be used inside, you may want to make it more attractive by polishing the surface. Other tools necessary to build your own bamboo fountain include a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill machine.

When you ready to construct your bamboo fountain, you must start by cutting bamboo sticks to the proper lengths. Three large bamboo sticks are necessary for construction. Two sticks will secure the moving part of the fountain while another will be connected to the nozzle. The moving part of the fountain is the essential element in your bamboo fountain since it is responsible for collecting the water and emptying it as the weight of the collected water increases. All three bamboo pieces will need to have holes cut through the centers. You need holes in your bamboo sticks pieces because a rod will be inserted in them to make the fountain operate with pivot action.

You will take the pipe and link it from your water pump and up through the bamboo stick. The very top of this pipe is tipped with a bamboo nozzle. Now that this is all done, you can mount the pieces to a base. The bamboo fountain is in working order when it continues cycling water through the moving part, out of the spout and back in again.

Should you rather skip the building process for your bamboo fountain, you can always buy one at a home design store that carries fountains.

If you do get a bamboo fountain, you might like to know how to maintain one. Any maintenance will concentrate in two places. The first area is water pump care. The pump must be kept underwater when in operation. Don't forget to clean the pump regularly. The second aspect of bamboo fountain care is scheduled water replacement. While you won't have to change the water on a bamboo fountain that constantly operates, you still need to schedule a time so you're not dealing with stinky water.
