How To Manage Your Stress For Achieving Your Personal Goal Setting Plans

By: Clifford Mee Home | Self-Improvement | Stress-Management

Perhaps you are determined to impress the boss and claim a promotion or maybe you really want to buy a new car, but the bills keep piling up. Regardless of the type of personal goals you wish to accomplish, there are many situations in the wonderful world of goal setting that cause a great deal of stress. What's worse is that, when this stress accumulates, there is a loss of precious time, energy, and motivation that can hinder the achievement of personal goals.

If you are unable to effectively manage your stress levels, you could really set yourself back when it comes to accomplishing the tasks you need to get out of the way in order to realize your dreams. Stress can be a very important factor when it comes to achieving the things you want out of life. It can completely drain the determination, drive and progress out of a person. Stress causes exhaustion and sickness; all of which is not needed when you're trying to make a positive difference in your life.

The Different Kinds of Stress

While stress is often seen as a negative force affecting your life and the lives of family and friends, there are actually two different kinds of stress to speak of. Stress can be positive just as much as it can be negative. Positive stress is responsible for the anticipation, excitement and butterflies in the stomach that comes from accomplishing goals. I'm sure this is the kind of stress you'd be more than happy to deal with.

For instance, positive stress comes from competing against a classmate for top honors or confronting the person you've had a crush on for many, many years. These are all the things that shape and will continue to shape our lives. Since both positive and negative stress is involved when it comes to accomplishing goals, there are ways to harness this energy to use in our favor.

Despite popular belief, a life free of stress is actually not a healthy one. Without stress, where would some of our motivation stem from? Stress is totally manageable and when we learn of the many ways it can be controlled, achieving goals is not as unattainable as some think. When you are unable to cope with stress, you may possibly run the risk of becoming quite the depressed individual. In this state, you may feel bored or experience feelings of hopelessness. The next stage eradicates your desire to achieve your goals as your motivation is sucked out of you.

Symptoms of Stress

Part of managing your stress levels is to know when you are actually suffering from the signs. Stress is a normal part of life. It is when we suffer from excessive amounts of it that you begin to lose focus on the goals you wish to achieve. There is only so much that we can all tolerate in the name of stress and these levels are all different when it comes to various individuals.

It is important not to let stress get out of hand. When we let stress run rampant in our lives, many illnesses have been known to occur. Severe anxiety may occur, as well as bowel disorders. Some of the symptoms to be on the lookout for include loss of hair, anxiety attacks, extreme tiredness, headaches, loss of appetite and sometimes the reverse (increase in eating).

How To Manage Stress

To reduce the levels of stress that may come with the pressure of trying to achieve your personal goals, you should consider some of the following tips on managing stress:

1) It is important to become aware of the cause of stress in your life that could seriously affect your physical and emotional nature.

2) If you can change the things that create stress in your life, you should make an honest effort to avoid these stressors.

3) When stress causes you to react in an emotional way, you should analyze and try to contain these urges.

4) Eating a well-balanced meal filled with nutrition can help combat the affects of stress.
