How To Master Adult Cello Lessons

By: Pamelina Siow Home | Arts-and-Entertainment

You will never really master a musical instrument unless you do practice regularly. The amount of time you spend practicing should depend on how hard the instrument is to learn. But if you want to be more than a mediocre player, then you should practice daily.

You should maximize your practice time by making sure you're in the mood when you play. If you are more alert in the mornings then that's when you should be doing your practice. I would also recommend that you find a place where you can play without disturbance. A cellist will be able to concentrate better when undisturbed by anything. This way, you don't waste time doing unnecessary things like daydreaming.

The fingering of the strings of a cello should be precise. A little down on the string would cause the note to be higher and vice versa. So whenever you play, check to know for sure that the notes you play are exactly right.

The best way to be great here is by getting a tutor or a friend who's great at playing. Or, you can also train your ear to memorize the notes perfectly by listening to audio tapes and such. This method should enable you to correct yourself anytime without effort just by listening to your playing.

A good indication that a cellist has already mastered the instrument is by doing vibrato. This is the hand movement when on the string, while you're bowing. Vibrato would literally sound like a vibration of the note, thus the term. Although when you see this done by experts, it seems easy. But in truth, this is really hard to accomplish and will require hours of practice.

You should enjoy yourself while having your adult cello lessons. This is guaranteed to make you a better cellist. If you're having fun, chances are you will like having more adult cello lessons and practice sessions. Playing an instrument is supposed to be enjoyable, but if you don't really love playing, then it's probably just a waste of time.

There are ways on how you can make the lessons more enjoyable, like rewarding yourself afterwards, having friends come over during the adult cello lessons, etc. But really, you're already an adult. Never persist in doing something that you don't really enjoy or like doing. Give yourself a break, and do only things that you enjoy doing. Always have a positive attitude around music.

The cello is a wonderful musical instrument. Although you need to play it seriously, there is room for pleasure. Master it well and enjoy your newest achievement in life.
