You normally know if you have oily skin. Your pores will be larger than normal, and your face will have a shiny appearance. You will also have a tendency to get blackheads and pimples. You will need to deal with your oily skin from both the inside and the outside. Here are some great tips to help you to deal with your oily skin. First of all you need to take a look at your diet. If you eat a lot of red meat and dairy products, these are loaded with saturated fat and you can end up with an oilier skin. Try and decrease you intake of fatty foods with saturated fats and increase your intake of vegetables, whole grains, fresh fruit, nuts, seeds and fish. A supplement of one to three teaspoons a day of flaxseed oil can work wonders for improving your skin. Lecithin is also a great supplement that will help to break down the fats in your body. Externally, you can try using herbal tea as an astringent. Herbal teas such as yarrow, sage or peppermint will remove any leftover cleanser and dirt from an oily skin and tighten up your pores. Boil a cup of water and remove the pan from the heat. Add one tablespoon of dried herbal tea or two tablespoons of fresh herbal tea and cover and steep for thirty minutes. Strain the tea and let it cool then use. You can store the leftover liquid in a squeeze bottle which you can keep on your bathroom counter for three days or in your fridge for up to five days. You can use this mixture whenever your skin feels excessively oily and apply with a cotton ball, avoiding the eye area. Because this is a herbal remedy, you can use it up to ten times a day and it won't dry your skin. If you like the essential oils, try adding a drop of neroli to a lavender floral water and spraying the mixture onto your skin a few times a day. This works well for oily skin, as the lavender will tone and cleanse the skin and the neroli is like a skin tonic which will penetrate the skin and help regulate the production of sebum. If there is too much sebum being produced, neroli may help to normalize the production levels. Another aromatherapy alternative is to use the following. Try diluting five drops of geranium, juniper or rosemary essential oil with a tablespoon of an astringent base oil like apricot kernel or hazelnut. Put a few drops onto a cotton wool pad and use it to gently dab excess oil off your face. This is a great astringent, and it is lightweight and won't clog your pores or add any oiliness to your skin. Using the above natural remedies should go a long way in helping you to rid yourself of oily skin problems.
