How To Paint A Military Vehicle

By: Roberto Bell Home | Computers-and-Technology

Most military vehicles in magazines, pictures, movies and television are usually painted in camouflage. If you have a military vehicle and you think that it needs a painting job, below are some guidelines to help you:
Sandblasting the Vehicle
Before you paint your military vehicle, make sure that the previous paint has been stripped off. Usually, military vehicles in dire need for a painting job are those that are restored, restructured, or salvaged to look like new.
If your vehicle falls on this case, you must check if there are other rusty portions in the vehicle before deciding to completely paint it.
Choosing Your Paints
If you want your military vehicle look really authentic, you cannot choose orange, yellow, or pink paint. You have to choose the paint colour officially used for military vehicles. These usually include a combination of olive drab and black with white and blue specks.
The darkness and lightness of the colour should be matched perfectly to blend with the predominant and typical colour of the ground where military vehicles operate. The white or light gray paint is usually applied to the under surfaces of the military vehicles for the reflection of light; thereby lightening the dark shadows on the vehicle’s undercarriage. This painting technique or method is also called countershading.
The Painting Proper
1.Apply the first coating of the paint. This is also called the primer. This is done to make sure that the paint coats will stick to the vehicle’s surface longer.
2.Wait for the first coating to dry.
3.When the primer is already dry, you can use typical paintbrushes or spray paint. Whatever instrument or method of painting you choose to use, remember to successfully mix and match all the colours of the camouflage. If you really can’t paint a military car by yourself, you can always ask painting professionals to help you.

Additional Tips
When doing a military vehicle painting job, it would be best to know the appropriate colours for different kinds of grounds, locations, or terrains. Olive drab with black shade is often used for temperate zones and jungles. For deserts, painters use olive drab with shades of earth red paint while olive drab with specks of white specks is used in snowy areas.
