Inserting an image or photograph for postcard printing is not that simple. Even if you plan on doing only cheap postcard printing, it really does pay to prepare your photographs for postcard printing correctly. If you do this, your color postcard covers will turn out better and look better whether you print in good quality or not. In this guide, I will teach you how to prepare your images, photographs and graphics for postcard printing. There are only five guidelines that you need to remember. 1. Make sure you use high-res originals †The first thing you should take into account is the resolution of your images. In postcard printing, it is mandatory to always use high resolution original photographs so that the images come out correctly once printed. This is the prevailing rule because in most cases when low resolution images are used, the postcards produced look fuzzy, distorted and show some pixels. So be sure what you are using are the best high-res originals. 2. Check the image lighting †The next thing to check is the lighting of the image. Like in most printed materials, the images should always have the best lighting you possibly can. Avoid using high contrast images since these will look â€burnt†or â€sharp†when printed in a full color postcard. So always choose images that have a proper brightness and contrast balance to avoid this mistake. You can also use the brightness and contrast image settings in image editors if you want to correct these mistakes in your color postcard images. 3. Check for grains and noise †You should also analyze your image and see if it is clear or not. Some images may actually have grain or noise once they are scanned or processed digitally. This can make your color postcards look dirty or old even if they are freshly printed. So take the time and look for odd color dots, tears and other irregularities in your image. Try using an image editing tool like Corel Draw or Adobe Photoshop to smooth these out or make them disappear altogether. 4. Make sure some â€open space†exists †It is also important that you make sure that there are parts of your image that has â€open spaceâ€. I am not referring to white space here. I am talking about a part of the image that has a lot less detail than other areas. Typically this is an area of an image where only the background can be seen. This â€open space†is perfect for adding text in your postcard design. So before picking your image for postcard printing, make sure that you choose a picture that has the right amount of open space to place additional text for your color postcards. 5. Use a postcard template for accurate previews †Lastly, you should try adding your image to a postcard template just to see how it looks. There are plenty of free postcard templates out there that you can use for this. Sometimes, it is good to see an image in an actual postcard dimension or format to judge if it will look alright. This will tell you if the image is composed just right, or if the size or perspective of the image is wrong for postcard printing. Good! Just follow these tips in preparing your image for postcard printing and you will have no trouble at all with your postcard covers.
