How To Prevent And Treat Varicose Veins

By: Sam Johnson Home | Health-and-Fitness | Anti-Aging

Every kind of varicose vein treatment requires the vein to be removed from the circulatory system. All procedures for treating varicose vein are invasive in nature. The actual cause of varicose vein and spider veins is not known. However, it has been observed that this problem occurs more in women than in men and more so after the age of 50. This health problem is also associated with obesity.

The theory is that in overweight people, the abdominal muscle weight is shifted to the legs causing the veins to swell. Many women also get varicose veins during pregnancy. During pregnancy, the uterus expands and exerts pressure on posterior vena cava. This causes an excess blood flow to the legs. At the same time the amount of blood in the body increases and causes the veins to expand.

Any kind of treatment for varicose vein, like stripping, radio frequency closure procedure or sclerotherapy is always accompanied with compression garments. The compression stockings available in the market are made in such a way that they apply different degrees of pressure on the legs. For prevention of problematic veins, both spider and varicose, support stockings prove to be very useful. These stockings can be used by women during pregnancy for aching and swelling of legs as well.

For more severe problems compression stockings, which apply a higher degree of pressure on the legs, can be used. These stockings apply graduated pressure on the legs. They apply maximum pressure on the ankles and the pressure decreases along the length of the leg. This graduation of pressure encourages the blood flow upwards. This relieves the pressure of excess blood in the leg veins and hence helps in preventing and treating varicose veins.

Treatment of Varicose vein with the help of compression stockings is recommended by all doctors. Similar recommendation is also given for the prevention and treatment of veins issues. The good quality stockings available in the market are manufactured in such a way that the lycra fiber is wound around the base fiber. This prevents the lycra from coming in contact with the skin and makes these stockings suitable for all skin types.
