How To Prevent Fire Damage To Your Garage

By: Aydan Corkern Home |

Your garage is a good place for a fire to start. As most men like to fix cars in the garage, you might find yourself with the smell of diesel fuel or regular gasoline smells. These are very flammable, and any small spark can and most likely will start a fire. No matter how clean a person tries to be, the chance of having a fire start in this area is slightly higher.

Because there are a lot of combustible items and flammable liquids that we store in our garages, we need to make extra sure that they are sealed properly and safely. We use all kinds of electrical devices out in this room so you really need to check them each time before you use them. A lot of times, you will have several things plugged into one power source that can overload your electric box and cause this box to throw a spark. If you have a lot of greasy rags lying around, you will have a big problem because this spark will find these rags and start a very deadly and fast fire.

These types of fire can gut a whole home in a matter of minutes, causing you to lose everything that you own. If you don't check your electrical equipment often, these can not only cause the electricity to go through you but if you are standing in water or your hands are wet and the equipment you are using is bad or damaged, they will send this current through you. It can maybe kill you or stop your heart or cause other kinds of damages.

To maybe stop this from happening, you might want to do this work outside in the yard. But the best way is to make sure that you have something to put all of the trash into instead of throwing it all over the yard. If you are changing the oil in your car, you will need to have a certain place to put this old oil so that you can throw it away later because this stuff needs to be put in a certain place to have it disposed of properly.
The same goes for old transmission fluid, and this stuff will make you sick if left on the skin for too long and will kill your pets outright. So make sure that you clean this up right away and wear gloves that you will need to throw away as soon as you are done with this job.
