When you buy a pair of sheepskin boots, you want them to stay looking brand new for as long as possible. That way you’ll get the best out of them. So, if you’re going to buy a pair of sheepskin boots there are a few simple rules that you need to follow. One of the first things that you need to know about sheepskin is that when you purchase it, it won’t be waterproof. So, first things first - you need to waterproof your sheepskin boots. 1. Spray with a suede protector Use any suede/sheepskin protector that has been designed to be resistant to stains and spills. In the winter, we all know that more often than not it’s going to rain in the UK. So, cover your sheepskin boots with plenty of protection and you’ll be fine whenever you leave the house. Suede and sheepskin are prone to change colour when wet so give them the best chance of staying pristine with this simple first stage. 2. Clean any water or dirt stains when they happen If teenage boys have taught us anything, it’s that if you leave dirt on clothes or shoes it’s even harder to shift. It’s the same, if not worse, when it comes to sheepskin as water and dirt affect the colour and look of the boot. So, if there is surface dirt or water has soaked in, use a suede cleaner mixed with water and remove the stain before it happens. 3. Keep out of direct sunlight If your sheepskin boots do get wet, which they are bound to, however hard you try to protect them - the way you dry them is of massive importance. Don’t worry if they change colour... slightly Don’t be too concerned if your sheepskin boots change colour slightly over time. It’s only natural for the sheepskin material to alter slightly when cleaned and also after a period of time, don’t worry - they’ll still look great. Protect them as much as you can but don’t feel that you have failed to keep them in pristine condition if they change a little. In fact, they can look even better with a bit of natural aging. 5. Protect them but enjoy them You can do everything possible to keep them clean but your sheepskin boots might still get dirty.
