How To Quickly Increase Site Traffic For Any Type Of Site

By: Eric Frey Home | Internet-and-Business | Traffic-Building

If you have a website, you no doubt remember how excited you were when it went 'live' for the first time. How you expected miracles. How you wanted the visitor counter to go through the roof during the first week. And how none of this actually happened. Below are a few tips on how you can increase site traffic with a couple of basic steps.

The majority of website traffic still comes from search engines. Before you even submit your website to the search engines however, there is something you should remember: they love good quality, relevant content.

It does not really matter what your website is about, having a few flash animations, nice pictures and an order form will no longer do the job. You absolutely have to give the search engines (and your visitors) more than this. There has to be content that makes sense. There has to to be keywords that are related to the industry in which you are involved.

Let's assume you have a camera shop. In the good old days of Alta Vista, you could have a 2-page website created, submit the URL to the big name search engines and virtually immediately start to get tons of traffic. This is no longer possible. With hundreds of millions of websites on the Internet, the search engines now sift the good sites from the bad ones by looking for relevant, top quality content.

As far as your camera store is concerned, your site should have loads of relevant information about different types of cameras. Explain how the various types of lenses work. Tell your visitors what megapixels mean and how to distinguish a good camera from an inferior one. Show that you know your subject. A lot of this information is already available on sites like Wikipedia and you can use it on your site as long as you clearly show the source of your information. Don't commit plagiarism!

There's many other ways to increase the number of visitors to your site. One other example is to join an online forum where visitors talk about the industry in which you're involved. Become a member and proceed to provide free, quality advice to people who have questions.

To use the example of the furniture removal company again: explain to people what the pitfalls are of using the cheapest company on the market. Tell them about everything that can go wrong if you don't insure your furniture.

As time passes, you will build a reputation as someone who are prepared to give something back to the community and who knows his subject. As most of these forums will allow you to post your website URL in your signature file, this is a way to get valued visitors.

There are of course also the social media sites. These are mostly free right now and if you know your story, you can build up a substantial following on Facebook and Twitter and other similar sites, which will in turn act to attract visitors to your website.

There are of course many websites where you can place paid advertisements for your site. Google and Yahoo both have such paid advertisement options. There are also numerous smaller search engines and groups of websites with similar programs that work out cheaper than the two big ones.

Don't expect to increase site traffic overnight. It's a long process that starts with quality content and ends with loyal visitors who return time after time because they like what they find at your site.
