How To Replace Fascias

By: Charlie Board Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

A fascia is the horizontal piece of plastic that stretches along the top of a house’s wall, and is an essential structural feature that supports a house’s guttering; like gutters, therefore fascias will sometimes require maintenance or full-on replacement, following e.g weather damage or just general wear and tear. If you do need to replace your fascia there are some important things that you should consider.

Before embarking on a fascia repair or replacement project you should ideally seek professional advice or guidance, better still you could get a someone in to do the job for you †but where’s the fun in that?!?

If you feel ready to replace or repair your fascias and you feel confident in terms of ladder safety then the process isn’t too difficult. First off you’ll need to remove all of your guttering, which is as big a job as it sounds and can be especially precarious if your gutters are made of heavy iron.

Once your gutters are removed you need to remove the previous fascia †if your old fascia has been there a long time there is a good chance that the nails holding it to your wall may have rusted, making their removal difficult, if this is the case you it may be a good idea to utilize a hacksaw.

The next step is to attach your new fascia †remember that if you’re only repairing a damaged fascia, you may only need to reinstate a small piece of alongside your old fascia. The important thing to ensure is that the new and the old fascias are perfectly aligned and this may involve some additional cutting, and a final paint job to ensure a colour match.
