How To Run A Star Wars Themed Birthday Party

By: Sara Leadbetter Home | Home-and-Family

Although the original Star Wars films are decades old, the Star Wars theme remains a popular favorite among fans of all ages. Kids find the Star Wars world to be an infinitely fascinating world in which to allow their imagination and fantasies to take flight in that galaxy far, far away. If your special birthday child is a fan of these films, this is a fantastic themed party to run.

Almost compulsory is to have your guests come dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters from any of the six films. To make sure this happens, it's a good idea to send out a themed invitation that clearly states that it is to be fancy dress. Add images on the invite to give people an idea. From the brown Jedi robes to a yoga mask to a full storm trooper outfit, the possibilities are huge. Include a competition for the best dressed, that usually helps.

Firstly, it's important to bring the theme to light in a way that allows everyone to enjoy themselves. Depending on the children's ages, you could have a classic Star Wars event with any of the original Episodes or even all 3 (IV, V, and VI) showing one after the other throughout the party. This is perfect for a party planned to be overnight or all day sort of party as it allows breaks in between the showings with plenty of time to incorporate some serious snacking or playing. It also allows you time to prepare food, games or just relax without interfering with the DVDs being played in the back ground. For older children having parties lasting the weekend, you may even want to show the entire series of films over several days.

If you are creative, you can have a session where guests make up tall tales about what their character has done. This creates a sort of role-playing atmosphere for the party that can be a huge amount of fun. If this isn't enough activity and you want a little something to wear the kids (big or small) out, set up a Jedi training academy. Set up an obstacle course for everyone to follow and a series of exercises similar to what Luke went through in The Empire Strikes Back. The winner can get some Star Wars themed award for giggles and a little added entertainment.

No birthday party is complete without a cake. Most bakeries are likely to have a great form cake on hand or in inventory for Star Wars because the theme remains so popular. If not, however, there are great cake ideas online that work beautifully for a Star Wars theme with home made birthday cakes. It's really great if you can try one of these because it will be something a little different from what everyone else who does a Star Wars themed party will have. Of course you could always go with a background of stars and the original Star Wars logo painted in yellow. Simple and yet completely appropriate.

A Star Wars themed birthday party is an entertaining and fun style of themed birthday party that's often as entertaining for the parents as the children. May the Force be with you.
