How To Show Appreciation On Your Wedding Day

By: Mary W Brophy Home | Home-and-Family

Planning a wedding can be hard work - but luckily you've been surrounded by a wonderful group of people who have helped get you through. Your attendants have likely been there for you as you've planned, re-planned, and planned some more. Or, maybe they've arranged to be at your wedding day against all odds, flying in from around the world. Whatever the case, it's time to show a bit of appreciation. Choosing gifts for your attendants and loved ones is a lovely gesture to show your gratitude and let them know how much their efforts have meant to you.

Make a List

It is customary for the bride and groom to give their attendants a token of appreciation, but there may be a few more people you want to acknowledge with a gift. Make a list of anyone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This may include a wedding planner who pulled miracles, parents who contributed financially to the big day, and friends that weren't in the bridal party, but were there for you every step of the way.

For the Gals

Spend a bit of extra time and purchase unique gifts for each person. You may consider matching gifts for your bridesmaids. Perhaps choose a theme but make each gift slightly different such as silver pendants with each woman's initial.

Choosing monogrammed gifts is a lovely way to personalize your gifts. Consider a cosmetic bag, compact mirror, or tote - a personalized wedding tote with your bridesmaids' initials, of course! Or, give something memorable for their home by wrapping up a framed photo of all the bridesmaids by choosing a frame that says "friends" or "sisters" on it for a keepsake touch.

Gift certificates can also be a lovely token of appreciation. You may what to purchase a spa, bookstore, or lingerie shop that everyone loves and encourage them to relax and spoil themselves.

For the Guys

Your groom will want to pick out gifts for his groomsmen on his own, but you can offer a few helpful suggestions. Cuff links are always a popular choice and can easily be personalized by engraving. Personalized sports items like golf balls are fun yet functional and perfect for the guys. Flasks, wine opening kits, and beer glasses are also fun ideas.

Instead of gifts, your groom may choose to treat his male honor attendants to tickets to a game, a concert, or a guys only night out. Whatever he decides to do, remind him a few months before the wedding to make sure it is being covered.

A Personal Touch

If the budget is tight, or if you just love a hands-on gift, you may choose to create your own gifts for your loved ones. Be creative, plan ahead and have fun. You might work together with your fianc to create unique works of art, delicious food items, or even a poem that eloquently professes your thanks.

Recognizing those that helped you get to where you are today should also be done at your wedding, through a heartfelt speech. Be sure to thank everyone for coming, and make special mention of your attendants, parents, and others who helped make the day a success.
