How To Take Care Of Your Corset Dresses

By: Britney Simpson Home | Shopping-and-Products | Fashion-Style

Corset dresses are marvelous attires that need to be taken proper care of, as well as correct handling. It is important to keep away your corset top from too much perspiration. Cleaning of your corset must be lowered down to help it last longer, stronger and beautiful. Most of the corsets need dry cleaning. At the time of buying your corset, ask the retailer whether the dress can be hand washed or not. It is best to check out the manufacturer’s advice and follow the cleaning instructions. If you think that you can put your corset in a washing machine to clean and dry it, then you are surely going to damage it severely. In case, hand wash is a must (when you have put any harsh strain on your corset), do it carefully. Use a soft brush to get rid of mulish stains. Never keep your corset wet for the whole night as it can damage the material and develop rust.

Hand Wash
It is not quite a difficult task to clean a corset top by doing hand wash in warm water. Take a bucket of warm water and mix hand-wash liquid in it. Loose the laces of the two stays and soak them in the solution for some five minutes. Then gently crunch each of the rolled up stays with two hands. Finally, squeeze out the water from them very mildly. Keep them aside and take another bucket with cool water. Rinse them in the cool water but don’t get harsh to squeeze out excess water when you are done. Again take mild warm water to make that final rinse of your corset. Now, take a towel and wrap the stays into it. Squeeze out completely so that the water gets out into the towel. Take out the stays and lay them on another dry towel. Place them in a warm place to dry up.

Drying Procedure
Try to dry your corset top within two to four hours. If you observe any rust on it, apply a gentle rust remover or a drop of whiskey. In order to dry your corset top fast, do not expose it into direct sunlight. The extreme heat of sun can cause color-fading of the corset dresses. Always use a plastic hanger to dry the corset, not a metal hanger.

Dry Wash
Considering the above hazards to wash corset dresses, it is advisable to go for a dry cleaning procedure. Do not try to dry clean your corset on your own, if you are really not an expert. Corset dry cleaning needs controlled conditions. Even dry cleaning of the corset must not be done on a regular basis. Maximum, you can dry clean your corset twice in a year. Even dry cleaning also damages the corset as it changes the fabric’s nature and also weakens it. Fabric also gets hampered when you wash your corset dresses. Washing your corset will not only change the nature of the fabric but also shrink the fabric. Thus, you must remain concerned to use your corset with proper care. Try to make your corset less dirty.
