By: genelia mark Home | Health-and-Fitness | Alternative-Medicine

Winter is upon us and winter skin care is probably on your mind. This time of year not only brings us some of the most beautiful scenes on postcards or paintings, but it also brings us a need for dry skin treatment.

The winter skin care advice below is actually a collection of preparation acts to boost your your winter skin care regimen and make it more effective:

Keep the skin hydrated:During winters it is essential to keep your skin supple and moist. So you must drink lot of water. As fruits and vegetables contain lot of water and vitamins that are good for skin, you need to eat them in plenty as well. To make your skin look bright you need to apply coconut oil or olive oil to your skin before you go for a bath.

Keep your face and skin covered. Sure, it's hectic getting ready for events putting on layers of clothing, but in the end, it saves your skin from being severely damaged. This is especially important if you take part in outdoor activities, such as skiing, ice skating, or hockey. The wind picks up in the winter, and the cold wind can leave your skin dry and flaky. Be sure to cover it properly.

Avoid skin care products that contain ingredients that dry out your skin. Such ingredients to avoid would be fragrance oil, alcohol and other harsh un-natural ingredients.

Sun protection is very important in the winter months, just as it is year-round. Many people forget to use sunscreen, but sun reflects off snow and ice, and you can actually get double the sun exposure.

Winter is the peak time for dandruff, flaking occurs due to excessive cell production but it can be prevented by using a good dandruff shampoo on a regular basis. Apply dandruff shampoo on your hair, even when you are not suffering from dandruff, it can act as a good precautionary measure.

During the cold weather, you might want to try using a thicker, richer moisturizer, two to three times per day, to help your skin to adequately replenish the moisture it loses.

Increase your intake of essential fatty acids (EFAs). These play an essential role in the health of your skin, hair, and nails by helping your body form healthy cell membranes that can effectively hold water inside the cells. The more water that's held in your cells, the better hydrated your skin is. To get these, eat more nuts, seeds, and wild Alaskan or Pacific salmon.

Don't slow down. Most people tend to cut back on their physical fitness in the cold winter months. Don't do this. As mentioned above, exercise brings on perspiration, which is good for your skin and scalp.

Wear Loose-Fitting Cotton Clothes Next to Your Skin: While dressing for winter, the most important point to remember is that when you dress in layers you sweat. In addition, your body also produces heat. Over heating of your body makes your skin sensitive to become itchy and dry. To prevent this, wear loose-fitting cotton clothes next to your skin. You can wear layers of woolen or winter clothes on top of it to fight cold.

So these are some ways to take care of yourself in winters.
