The introduction of your persuasive essay has to tell the readers what the argument is about and why it matters. The introduction is also the section in which you have to explain to the reader that you are qualified to write on this specified topic; that you are trustworthy and that you have done careful research about your persuasive topic.
The next step is to state your facts. In this section, you have to contribute background information about your persuasion topic and state your thesis or make a proposition upon which the rest of the essay will be built upon. This section may present a brief outline of the argument and the points that will be covered in the rest of your persuasive essay. This section may consist of more than one paragraph.
After, the section of the statement of facts follows the proof section. This is the most important part of the essay. It should be the longest section of your paper, made up of multiple paragraphs. In this section, you have to spell out your position and elaborate with reasons and facts. This should be the section in which you present most compelling evidence. The strongest evidence should be presented last so it sticks in your reader’s mind.
Now follows the refutation part. In this section, you address the objections that could be raised in refutation of your persuasion proposition. It is important for you to be able to demonstrate that you understand the objections and can refute them one by one. This strengthens your credibility and lends weight to your proposition.
The final part; the conclusion summarizes the main points of your persuasion topic and, more importantly, urges the reader to adopt your point of view. An emotional appeal may be appropriate in the conclusion of your persuasive essay, but should not be overdone.
