How Useful Is A Chafing Dish?

By: Clint Jhonson Home | Food-and-Drink | Cooking

I don’t know about you, but I have always been interested in the history of many things. The reason for this is due to the fact that we take everything for granted and we don’t take interest in anything anymore. Every little thing we use in our daily lives and we consider it to be less than important has a very long history of meaningful development behind it.

This goes for everything that fills our daily lives. One of the most interesting things that we come across quite often is the equipment found at a buffet. All those things find a root in history, may it be more recent or buried further down the line.

For instance do you know what a chafing dish or a chafer is? You have probably served food many times from one, but you have never known that it is called so. The chafing dish is the large receptacle made of stainless steel that is usually positioned on the table where the buffet is served. Its purpose is to keep the food warm for the people that will serve it.

It has a very ingenious method of accomplishing its goal. The food found if a chafer is usually one that doesn’t require direct heat in order to maintain an acceptable temperature. It has one or more fuel cells beneath it that generate enough heat in order to maintain the best temperature inside. Enough with the practicality of the invention! Let’s get back to our history lesson.

How old do you think an invention such as the chafing dish is? Many would say that it comes from the 20th or 19th century the least, but not many people know that chafing dishes were used extensively at buffet parties in England in the 16th century and in America in the 17th century.

They didn’t use fuel cells back then, but instead they used charcoals. Some of their chafers were not only used for keeping the food warm for serving, they also had a separate container filled with water in order to provide overcooking for foods like fish.

Nowadays you are able to find a chafing dish with a simple visit to a website over the internet. The products found today are much more practical, good looking and efficient. You have a lot of products from which you can choose, each with its pros and cons.

If you are interested in buying a chafer, then you should choose your website carefully. One of the websites that provides all the products you need for running a business like a catering service can be found over the internet at cateringsuppliesdepot.com.

On this website you are able to find much more than a chafer, you have access to all the catering supplies any business like that needs. Starting at much newer inventions like portable food warmers and ending with disposable supplies, this is the best provider for such products.

If you are not interested in the history lesson that hides behind every product, you should at least be interested in the practicality for which your purchase them. This website also gives you information on how you can make the most out of every situation.
