We are in the process of updating some of the rooms in our home. We have had the same furniture for many years so we have decided to buy a new living room set. The furniture we have right now compliments each other quite well. We have a long narrow living room area so we have two easy chairs in front of the fireplace, an all purpose table with chairs in the middle of the room and the sofa, love seat and two recliners at the other end of the room. Due to the length and fireplace at one end this room is a challenge to decorate. My husband has wanted a leather living room set for many years. I have never been very fond of leather. It always reminds me of waiting room furniture. I have asked some of our friends and family members that have leather whether or not they like it. The vote is about fifty fifty. It seems that the men like the leather furniture more than the women. We decided that we would take a day and go check what was available in our price range. We would sit on the furniture and also try to match the existing chairs so we would not have to replace the entire room. We would concentrate on the sofa and love seat for replacement. I took along the arm covers from the chairs that the new living room set would be closest to, for matching purposes. We have neutral carpeting and drapes in the room and the walls are a pale green color. The wooden pieces in that room are made of oak and so is the woodwork on the door frames and window sills. We looked at several living room sets and did not find any that looked like they would fit well in the room. We do not like the overstuffed look. I am short so I need to have cushions that are not too deep. It seemed that the pieces we found that were comfortable were in a loud fabric. We could special order a different fabric, but the wait time was over two months and the cost was more than we had budgeted for. In the third store we went to we found the exact living room set we were looking for. The upholstery had muted tones of greens and beiges. The design is simple and very comfortable. In place of a love seat was a glider for two people. It was very comfortable and the wooden arms and legs match the wood in the room. The store had a special that they would pick up your old furniture when they delivered the new pieces. The old furniture was then donated to the Red Cross for those in need. We love our new living room set.
