Playing with airsoft guns is great fun and there are lots of fun games you can create out of simply airsoft guns and a few empty cans you can stack. One of the reasons it's so fun is that it allows you to imagine that you are cowboy or a super-soldier, and we all tend to think that if we can aim perfectly with airsoft guns, then we could probably protect ourselves if we had to (much like we think we are amazing shots just because we are quite good at Halo... of course on some level we know that this isn't necessarily true...). This is why you get so much joy though from improving your aim, and why it feels like such a useful skill. At the same time, by improving your aim, you can greatly reduce the amount of airsoft ammo you lose behind the couch and the amount of airsoft ammo that knocks over your partner's belongings... So it's a good thing practically too. So how do you go about improving your aim? Well first of all it's a matter of learning to look down the sites. The sites are attached at the top of the airsoft guns and the idea is that they enable you to see what you have lined the guns up with. Close one eye and you will be able to see more clearly down the site at what it's pointing at, but make sure first that you are level with the sites so that you are looking at them head on †otherwise they won't work. At the same time you need to make sure you hold your arm very steady. The tendency many people have is to fire and to move their arm up slightly as they do, but what's important is keeping it precisely still. One thing that can help you to achieve that is to hold your arm with your spare hand underneath and this can steady it. Consciously remember as well to keep your arm rigid. Fortunately airsoft ammo doesn't have the worst kick-back in the world so you shouldn't get any jolt to contend with. You will find that the sites often don't quite line up with the airsoft guns. This is because... well, they're toys, but that said even real guns are often slightly 'off'. You will find that depending on the gun it often shoots just above the target or just below. This is not a problem as long as you learn to adapt to the problem, so use the airsoft guns a lot and you will learn over time how to adjust for that. If you fire and the airsoft ammo goes just over what you were aiming for, then you will know to aim slightly low next time. Eventually you will come to get a feel for the gun and this will help you to fire. Bear in mind as well though that the range with airsoft guns is limited due to how light the airsoft ammo is, so make sure you take this into account and allow for the arch of the trajectory in your calculations.
