Improving Occupational Health In Canada Using Flex Time Working

By: Pooja Rai Home | Computers-and-Technology | Software

According to a recent study, people in Canada are spending less time with their family than before due to working long hours in their workplace. Thus there is a need to improve the occupational health in Canada, so that the quality of life does not deteriorate and their family life remains unaffected. Occupational health does not only refer to the physical well being of the workers, it also focuses on their mental and social aspect. If a person’s social or family life is being adversely affected due to his working conditions, his occupational health is also affected.

Canada has a large pool of employees in the age bracket of 30-50 years who spend on an average 50 hours per week in their office. Therefore work schedule optimization in Canada is an essential part of maintaining a work life balance. Most major companies are recognizing this fact and are introducing new initiatives such as Flex-time working in Canada. Flex time working enables employees, especially women who have to take care of their families, to maintain an equal balance between their work life and family life. According to provisions of Flex-time working in Canada, employees can request for a work from home, shift working, term-time working, job share, tele-working, self-rostering, staggered hours, annualized hours, compressed hours etc. However, not every employee can avail flex-time working. Most companies follow a very professional approach and select only those individuals for such a initiative who really deserve it.

Information Technology has played a major role in the successful implementation of such initiatives. Computerized time and attendance tools have enabled companies to keep a track of employee’s time and attendance in Canada, thus managing absenteeism and promoting effective implementation of flex-time working. Employees also benefit from the use of technology since they are able to take advantage of online schedule optimization in Canada, and set a schedule that suits them as well as the organization.

Occupational health in Canada has benefited a lot due to this flex-time working schedule. Companies have been able to retain those employees which it could have otherwise lost due to increasing family pressure. People have not only retained their jobs, but also felt a drastic improvement in their working environment because now they can finally keep their work life separate from their family life and enjoy the benefits of both.
