Deciding to getting married abroad is not as complicated as it might seem at the beginning if you know what you really want. A wedding abroad, especially for weddings in Cyprus, requires a little thought as to what best suits you when it comes to the type of ceremony. You really have a few lovely choices. You can have a civil ceremony, which can take place either in a Town Hall, or at an approved venue by the beach; or, a church wedding. Your wedding planner will be a great help when deciding on what ceremony you would prefer. For those that fancy a civil ceremony, you need to apply in writing to the Town Hall of where you intend to marry. The safest route will be to contact the Town Hall at least 6 months before your wedding date to confirm availability on the date. If you are having a wedding planner to coordinate things usually he or she will deal with all the necessary documentation long before your arrival date just to make sure that everything is in order. On your day of arrival or the day after an appointment is arranged with the Town Hall by your wedding planner; this is for the wedding officer at the Town Hall to meet you and go through the whole ceremony, check that the original documents are in order and pay the civil ceremony fee. Even though it might seem a bit complicated it is actually very simple procedure as soon as all the documents have been verified and validated. The good news is that the ceremony will be performed in English. The beach, especially for Cyprus weddings, is a superb place to marry; long sandy beaches will provide the perfect backdrop for your wedding ceremony. To be able to celebrate your betrothal, then you still need to apply in writing to the Town Hall of where you intend to marry, or the Officer of the Municipality, and this should be done in plenty of time before your day of arrival. Your wedding planner will be able to guide you through the steps in conducting a religious ceremony on the beach, so you need to comply with the same rules as a civil wedding. The church, or religious planning, requires the greater amount of paperwork. You can either choose an Anglican, or Catholic wedding, and both will be in English. For religious ceremonies again, you must apply in writing to the Town Hall of where you intend to marry because there is the requirement of a civil ceremony to take place first before the religious ceremony. As before, you should allow plenty of time before your day of arrival, so that you can get permission to marry in church and to ensure availability on your chosen date. Don't forget that if you apply for a Special License to marry, you only have to be in residence for three working days before you marry; if you apply for a Normal License, then you will have had to have been in residence for 15 working days.
