Information On Metabolic Syndrome

By: genelia mark Home | Health-and-Fitness

Metabolic syndrome is a condition in which a group of risk factors. People with the this diseas are at increased risk of coronary heart disease and other diseases related to plaque buildups in artery walls (e.g., stroke and peripheral vascular disease) and type 2 diabetes.

Metabolic Syndrome represents a group of markers that increases your risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other pathologic states.Metabolic syndrome, also known as Syndrome X or Insulin Resistance Syndrome is not only considered a disease in its own right, but is also a precursor to Type II diabetes and increases the risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke.

The list of its symptoms includes insulin resistance, high blood pressure, excessive weight (especially around the waist) , high cholesterol (triglycerides) and increased levels of uric acid.

Here are the measurements and how they are altered in metabolic syndrome:

obesity
glucose intolerance or insulin resistance
elevated triglycerides
altered lipid profile
elevated blood pressure
elevated blood pressure

According to statistics, the metabolic syndrome primarily strikes those teens who are overweight or at-risk for overweight, a group that has tripled during the last two decades.

The metabolic syndrome appears to be caused by insulin resistance and the associated accumulation of visceral adipose tissue (VAT), also called intra-abdominal fat.

You need to understand that this syndrome is reversible with time while the alternative of not making this change is diabetes, which is never reversible. Remember, if you continue to do what you have always done, you will continue to get what you have always gotten.

If you have metabolic syndrome, cells become damaged and resistant to insulin. You must replace the minerals lost to start losing weight and healing your body. Small, high protein meals, six times per day are recommended.

Metabolic syndrome is largely preventable because the majority of the risk factors can be overcome with changes in your behavior. For instance, eating more fruits and vegetables, and staying away from fatty meats can help you to lose weight and lower your cholesterol levels.

These diseases were practically unknown to most of the world 100 years ago. (See Weston A. Price's classic book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.") It has only been since processed foods have been introduced that these modern diseases have increased.

The link between osteoarthritis and metabolic syndrome is based on white blood cells, immune fighting cells, increasing in areas where fat accumulates, especially around the abdomen (abdominal obesity).

The importance of diagnosing metabolic syndrome lies in our ability to approach the condition holistically, and not just see it as a cluster of risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Metabolic Syndrome Diet is designed to promote a lower-calorie consumption plan in addition to a daily exercise component. The diet plan basically promotes eating sufficient fresh fruits and vegetables.

In the general population the metabolic syndrome is about three times as prevalent than type 2 diabetes. Since, especially in women, metabolic syndrome accounted for more strokes than diabetes alone, this study concluded that this syndrome is a risk factor for stroke in nondiabetics.
