Innovation Report: The Unibind Xu138 Single Heater Binding Machine

By: Home | Business

If you are searching for an innovative binding solution that doesn't require a punch system, the Unibind XU138 Single Heater binding machine is right for you. The XU138 creates the look of a perfect bound document, without punching or insertion. All you need to do to use the Unibind XU138 system is insert the pages into your spine and place then in the machine. The XU138 does everything else. It's by far the easiest to use binding system on the market today. Additionally, the Unibind XU138 has a large array of options for those who want to bind their reports or documents in a unique and professional way.

With options including hard cover presentations, photo books, clear or frosted report covers and customized front and back covers, the Unibind XU138 doesn't' just say it has choices It delivers! The machine has the maximum capacity of 36mm, which allows you to bind a single document that is 36mm thick, or multiple documents that collectively add up to 36mm,providing the versatility of binding several small documents or a thick report with the same equipment.

The beauty of the Unibind XU138 is that it can automatically sense the steel spine in a Unibind-manufactured spine or cover and then activates the heater when placed on the machine. After the spine has been placed on the binder, it heats the document long enough for the binding process to take place. Once heated, the XU138 actually tells you just when your document is complete, and then you can move it to unit's cooling rack. Additionally, machine can be used on thermal bind covers or even glue strips if you just use an extra Unibind cover to activate the process.

This binding system has a lot of wonderful, innovative features, but there are some notable exceptions. For instance, a capacity of 36mm capacity (approximately 1-1/2") will probably be suitable for the majority of users, but if your volume capacities are quite high, you may want binding system with more than one heating unit, which will allow you to bind several documents at one time. Or, if you need to bind any single document that is thicker than 36mm, you will have to consider another type of binder instead of the XU138.

The UniBind XU138 has a very strong steel-binding spine, giving you a high quality bind on all of your documents. Because the spine is steel, however, the document will not be able to be folded flat or to wrap around when opened. This is not the case with other binding methods.

Foil stamping is a great look and can be used simply and effectively on XU138-bound covers, but if you are trying to use offset printing on a hard cover or spine, this is nearly impossible to achieve with the XU138, primarily because the necessary supplies are made in Europe and have 10-12 week delivery schedule. If tight schedules are an issue for your organization, again, this may not be the right equipment for you.

The Unibind XU138 binding system is built in with very durable materials. It is primarily plastic, but also has many metal components, making it wear very well over time. In addition, the systems heating unit activated by a magnet that can detect the metal in the spine to begin the binding process. This can be tricked, however, using a Unibind cover. This will let you also use your Unibind system with glue strips or thermal bind covers.

Though the Unibind XU138 binding system is made to last, it does come with a one year warranty. Even if you don't end up needing it, a warranty gives you the assurance that Unibind backs their products up and will stand behind the XU138.

This machine is innovative and offers many different binding style choices. It is perfect for high-end proposals or professional presentations, which lend themselves very well to the real estate industry, appraisers, and even print shops. However, the equipment may not be quite right for higher volume applications where a multi-heater binding system may be more appropriate, Although one must keep in mind that a multi heater unit only adds more capacity, not better functionality. That being said, the Unibind XU138 a great binder and an innovator in the industry.
