Install A Home Misting System In Simple Steps

By: John peter seo Home | Home-and-Family | Landscaping-Gardening

People would try as many ways as possible to escape from the oppressive heat during the summer days. An outdoor misting system would be of great use to bring the temperature down and provide cool comfort to open spaces. These misting systems work on simple technique and are based on the evaporation of water. They are capable of converting hot air into cold air thereby providing relief from the sweltering summer. A low pressure outdoor misting system can be easily installed by following some simple steps.

The first step is getting a PVC pipe. Take the pipe and cut it into lengths of 24 inches. For getting fine finish, it is advisable to use a PVC pipe cutter as it will be both easier and also won’t produce wreckage of the pipe. You must apply PVC primer over the pipe and also on the nozzle. Make sure that you coat about inch on exterior and interior of both ends of the nozzle using the primer. The next step is attaching the nozzles onto the pipe. Glue the nozzles using PVC glue to coat the end of the PVC pipe. Then misting nozzle should be locked into place by inserting it over the pipe and gently turning it. For perfect functioning of the misting system, continue the priming and gluing process with other nozzles and pipes. Make sure that the nozzles are aligned straight with each other as they are glued to the pipe. It should be aligned before gluing since it is not possible to make any changes after the glue has dried. Then remove the spray nozzle heads and make the system to be flushed.

Once the nozzle heads are flushed, fix the pipe clips to the pipe in a straight run. The PVC pipe should be held straight and it must run direct up to the roof. Hammer the pipe clips somewhat loosely onto the roof of the patio or wherever you want it. After that, loosely attach the other straight runs to the patio roof using the clips. The nozzle holes should be adjusted in such a way that it is not directly pointed down but tilts out slightly. Glue the runs firmly using primed elbow fittings and make sure that the nozzles stay at the correct angle. For increasing support, tighten the clips and provide additional clips between the two nozzles.

Remember to add a drain to the system so that it can be drained whenever needed. Before winter drain the system for protecting the pipes from freezing and cracking. Drain can be made by gluing a primed elbow fitting to a short piece of pipe. Attach the drain to the bottom of the pipe and it should be allowed to unscrew for releasing water. Use elbow fittings and run PVC from the ceiling to the faucet. The misting system would be ready to be used after leaving it for one hour for the glue to get dried. Do flushing several times by turning the water on as trial runs. Close the drain after turning off the water and attach spray nozzles for enabling the outdoor misting system.

If you want an immediate remedy for the summer heat, go for ready to use outdoor misting system kits which are largely available in the market.
