Stress seems to be an epidemic these days and often triggers poor sleeping patterns. Then, your poor sleeping habits interfere with your ability to have satisfying senior sex. When someone wakes up in the morning tired and groggy, sex is the last thing on their mind. You'll want to take charge of your stress to keep your love life healthy and happy. The cause of the stress isn't what seems to make the difference. Whether it's problems with or the loss of friends and family, economic challenges, or retirement choices and challenges, there's plenty of pressure to trigger a stress reaction for those of us of a certain age. From there, It's easy to slip into depression or anxiety both of which bring on more problems and issues, especially if you start taking medications for these difficulties. Most of the medications for depression and anxiety directly interfere with your ability to have a satisfying love life, typically by decreasing desire and your ability to experience both erections and orgasms. You end up all stressed out, depressed and/or anxious, then start taking pills to help, only to have them shut down one of the best stress reducers: senior sex. How can you tell if your sleeping problems are stress related? It's when and how your sleep is interrupted. You'll know it's stress when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. Your brain seems on overload, and yet you can't seem to think clearly to get to solutions for what's bothering you. It's the classic sign of too much stress. Increasing Activity Level Improves Your Sleep Don't overlook the most effective do-it-yourself remedy for stress and stress related sleeping problems: being more physically active. The good news is, even a simple, low impact activity like walking, will help decrease the effects of being stressed. This same slight increase in activity will also start to have a positive effect on your sleeping patterns. Any kind of exercise earlier in the day can have you primed for better sleep. You're more ready for bed when it bedtime comes, you'll fall asleep more quickly, and tend to sleep more fully all night long. Especially if you are more active earlier in the day, not in the evening. Even if you have to get up to go in the middle of the night, you'll fall back asleep more easily. And will be less likely to get into the "up half the night worrying, thinking, or just in "tossing and turning" mode. And, more able and likely to take advantage of one of mother nature's greatest stress reducers: morning love'n. Much better to get hooked on getting more activity, more exercise, more love'n, than on sleeping pills. Not only is activity lighter and easier to carry, but it's less expensive and produces a euphoric high rather than a depressive low that's far too common with sleeping pills.
