Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

By: Arun Singh Home | Health-and-Fitness

Teeth whitening has become increasingly popular with people who have a great smile and want to keep it that way. It is also popular because before teeth whitening kits became available over the counter, you had to make a trip to the dentist, which is not always convenient. With teeth whitening becoming such a popular trend, people tend to look past what risks might be involved in the procedure.

As we become older our teeth lose their luster because of all of the things they have had to endure over the years. When you are a kid, brushing your Teeth whitening teeth consistently three times a day is usually what protects them and keeps them pearly white. This process does not last forever which is why teeth whitening is something that most people will turn to when they get older to protect their teeth and to be able to keep that great smile.

It does not matter if you use your own whitening kit or go to the dentist, the following are some of the risks involved in doing this type of procedure:

"Your teeth can become temporarily more sensitive.
"Your gums can get mildly irritated and sore.
"If done incorrectly, you can suffer from chemical burns.
"Over-whitening, which can make your teeth look un-natural.
"A process called rebound which is where your teeth become immune to teeth whitening and they actually end up turning darker.

Knowing the risks involved will help you make a better decision when you choose to whiten your teeth. Most of these risks are not that harmful and none are fatal so the benefit seems to far outweigh the risks with teeth whitening.

If you are looking to regain that beautiful smile you once had as a kid, you might consider teeth whitening to achieve your white smile and in turn, making you feel much more confident when smiling.
