Everyone knows of the phenomenal success of sites like MySpace and FaceBook over the past couple of years. Reports show a growth of almost 50% in the top social networking sites and a huge growth of over 350% for MySpace alone. While this has been taken negatively by doomsayers who predict the worst for children who have access to these networks, it is seen as very positive not only by social scientists (who marvel at this growing technology-savvy social beings) but by online marketers who have found a goldmine for the products and services they offer. While being a fun endeavor, using these social networking sites, the online marketers also are able to meet business contacts, new customers, old friends and even meeting new friends interested in the same things as they are. All the while, making a good profit on the side. While Facebook has made impressive strides to compete with the lightning growth of MySpace, it still has a way to go to take down the giant. However, most observers agree that Facebook's more controlled and deliberate growth will be an asset to them in the future. Could there be another social site that may controlled growth plan of it's own? Could there be one looking to specialize in a certain niche like business owners and online marketers. While it is agreed that Google's bazillion(just kidding, closer to a billion) dollar investment in MySpace shows that the guys with the huge heads and even the super geniuses they have working for them see something good inside social networking sites. As of December 18th, 2007 MySpace has over 300 million registered accounts and attracts aver 200,000 new accounts on a daily basis. The effectiveness of MySpace as an advertising medium is highlighted by the use of it by 2008 US Presidential hopefuls. While there is still a lot of room for growth and profits on MySpace, it is ideal to always look for new opportunities in social networking. There are a lot of wannabees that have started out small like Giblink but just like MySpace, it has a lot of potential for growth. The Internet is an open space of ideas and of sites that are operated by people who invest in them. Those who are meeting big opportunities at MySpace now are the very people who were with MySpace from its inception. You, too, can have this chance if you dare look at other sites. Who knows, it may be worth your time.
