Is Windows Vps The Right Choice For You?

By: Sanjay Joshi Home | Internet-and-Business | Web-Hosting

In this day and age of computing, having your own website is an absolute necessity. There are so many things that you can do online that it becomes a very bad business decision to not invest some amount of money on a website. For instance, if you are the owner of a banking firm, adding an online banking option can be of great assistance to your user base. The possibilities are endless. A restaurant could save its menu card online; a car company could give users the option of requesting a test drive online, and so on.

However, to actually have your own website, you need to have some form of hosting. There are essentially two types of hosting, dedicated and shared. Shared hosting, though inexpensive, does not allow for too many customizations to your website as the operating system is installed and managed by a third party. A dedicated server offers complete flexibility, but is a huge investment for any company. So the middle ground is VPS, or Virtual Private server, where a server is essentially split into parts and you pay for control of one part and you can do virtually anything you wish to that part.

A Windows VPS is one of the most popular options out there today. This is because of a variety of reasons. Microsoft has proved it’s dominance in the field of operating systems over the years, and this dominance carries over to web servers too. Windows Virtual Private Server are among the most stable, customizable and secure servers out there, backed by the most thorough and complete assistance and support you could ask for, be it over the phone, over the internet, or whether it’s qualified professionals who are trained and tested by Microsoft itself to manage it’s servers. This is something a lot of people consider the biggest benefit of such servers.

Another huge advantage of a Windows Virtual Server is that you can set it up to be completely unmanaged. Windows Unmanaged servers can have the full capability that a server that has a twenty four hour admin watch because Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and effort making sure this is possible, and it’s one of the reasons that Windows servers are the most popular ones today. Apart from the fact that they can be set up to be completely unmanaged, one of the biggest benefits is that these servers are backed by the excellent customer support system Microsoft has spent years perfecting.

Since it is a closer source and commercial OS, the Windows Server OS actually has several advantages. Since it is closed source, it becomes a lot harder to hack. Also, the fact that it is a commercial OS means that there is always a team of people constant designing updates for the OS so as to secure it against new threats that arise everyday. If you don’t mind paying a little extra for the operating system, then a windows based server can be the perfect balance of cost, features, performance and security.
