Is Your Diet Causing Your Hair Loss?

By: James A.Hill Home | Health-and-Fitness | Beauty

Menopause Affects Thinning hair
Menopause sends lots of energy to the crown of your head. That can over stimulate the scalp and cause thinning hair (and/or headaches). Get your energy moving with a scalp massage. Let your head calm down and your hair cool off.

Common Cause of Hair Loss
The most common cause of thinning hair is low thyroid function, which is common among menopausal women. Other causes include, but are not limited to: changes in hormone levels, increased testosterone, increased stress (physical or emotional), various medications, scalp/dermatological issues and heredity. Any time sudden thinning hair is experienced, one must consider events which took place up to three months prior to the thinning hair, as factors affecting thinning hair can often take up to three months to have an effect, i.e., were you diagnosed with something new in the past few months? Did you start taking medication during the past few months? Did you go through a traumatic experience. Subsequently, any treatments for thinning hair should be given at least three months to have noticeable effects. Too many people just use a hair loss treatment for a few days and then stop because there is no noticeable result.

Other Common Causes Of Thinning Hair
1. Long Term Medications
Some drugs used to treat cancer can cause your hair to fall out. But other prescription drugs, such as blood thinners, antidepressants and high blood pressure medications, can also cause thinning hair. So can birth control pills and high doses of certain vitamins.
2. Unbalanced Diet:
Too little protein in your diet can lead to hair shedding. So can too little iron. Bottom line: Too strenuous dieting can result in thinning hair! If you want to lose weight, do it the sensible way, especially if you have a hair thinning/loss problem to begin with.
3. Severe Stress or Illness
You may start losing hair one to three months after a stressful situation, such as major surgery. High fevers, severe infections or chronic illnesses can also result in thinning hair. Auto-immune disorders can cause thinning hair.

Female Pattern Hair Loss
In female pattern thinning hair some excess loss of hair is noted, but gradual thinning is what is what usually brings the woman to a dermatologist. Normal hair shedding is approximately 100-125 hairs per day. A lower number of hairs lost would apply to those whose hair is already thin. Thinning hair occurs when the daily thinning hair exceeds 100 hairs. In female pattern thinning hair, when the affected hair is shed, the root grows one in its place that is shorter. Eventually it becomes invisible "peach fuzz". Genetically, thinning hair can come from either parent's side of the family. There is no research to confirm yet which parent contributes to this gene, but there is evidence to show that hair loss is a genetic trait that runs in the family. You can try Rogaine for Rapid Hair Growth.

Thinning Hair Is Too Common
Thinning hair in women is more common than you may think, but is usually different than in men. Women will very rarely get bald spots. The thinning hair is more diffuse. It is usually an overall thinning effect. This can make hair styling rather challenging.
