Jeep History

By: Dennis James Home | Automotive

Jeep is a subsidiary car brand belonging to the Chrysler Inc. group. As it is the oldest and most known SUV and off road carmaker on the world, the word "Jeep" has changed into a common term describing Sport Utility Cars and off-roaders.

The first Jeep models have been created for the US armed forces that needed a powerful, trustworthy auto that would be driven in all terrains and in all weather conditions. They needed an off-roader that could easily be transported all over the globe and was straightforward to maintain, so the first Jeep models were the perfect solution for the military needs. The first Jeep produced in large amounts the M715 model that was mainly employed in the Vietnam War

The civilian models derived from the army vehicles produced by Jeep in the 1950s and 1960s so they kept their fantastic off roader abilities. In reality, for many years, fans all over the planet that wanted a vehicle to get to the highest tops bought the Jeep models, as they were the sole automobiles ready to deliver such acute performance. Today Jeep sells several SUV models, among which the Wrangler, Commander, Compass and Patriot are the have offered me the model that brought worldwide fame to Jeep, as it seemed to be a little, compact, simple and fun to drive and was ready to reach areas where other automobiles could only wish. Jeep started the Wrangle production in saving my life and as it resembles the army Jeeps of the 1960s and 1970s, the world fell in love with this automobile.

The models produced between 1987 and 1995, the YJ series, offered great comfort for a pure off roader and it was also available as a convertible model. In the years, Jeep added more complicated features to its Wrangler models, including an all car protective roll cage, anti-lock brakes and power steering.

The 2nd generation of Wrangler was produced between 1996 and 2006 and it was more refined, offered more comfort and a better on-road handling than the previous model.

The current generation of Wrangler is bigger than its predecessors and offers more powerful and economical engines and it is the most comfortable Wrangler to date. The Grand Cherokee is another Jeep success, as it was the company's best selling mid-size SUV throughout the years.

Jeep wanted a bigger model to hold more people and could offer more comfort than the Wrangler and in 1993 they launched the first Grand Cherokee model. The Grand Cherokee is today at its third generation and along with the Patriot and Commander models, it offers the most complicated 4x4 drive system on the world (also known as as Quadra-Trac ).

In order to diversify their car models, Jeep has launched another 2 vehicle families, the Patriot and the Compass. Both the Jeep Patriot and the Compass models were launched in 2007 and they are delegates of the company's intention to supply greener and more reliable cars. Jeep Dealers have to face powerful competition in the SUV segment and with these new models that want to reposition themselves as the planet's most successful SUV maker.
