Keep These Carpet Care Tips Handy

By: Rudy Silva Home | Business

Removing carpet stains is a major task of carpet care. Using a vacuum device is not enough. While it can suck the dust and dirt, it does not clean up the stains and restore the carpet to its original appearance.

If the carpet is heavily soiled, it needs shampooing. Using a wet-cleaner machines spray and remove the hot detergent solution ensures cleanliness germ-free condition of your carpet. Here are few steps to maintain your carpet clean and good smelling.

You need to use a steamer or wet-cleaner machine just as suggested in the previous paragraph. You can either buy it at the hardware or rent it at the grocery store. Depending on the policy of the establishment, the cleaning products can either be included in the package or should be bought separately.

In choosing the machine, pick the one that is compatible to your needs. As part of your carpet care, you need to ensure that its threads are not destroyed especially when you remove the carpet stains. If the carpet shampoo is not included in the package, make sure that you bought the solution recommended by the manufacturer of the machine.

In cleaning carpet, you should make sure that all furniture is removed from the carpet. Thoroughly vacuum the carpet to remove all dirt. This should also expose the carpet stains, if there are any.

Using a traffic-lane cleaner or pre-spray, spray the heavily soiled areas. For really dirty areas, increase the amount of pre-spray used, instead of increasing the amount of carpet shampoo. You can also use carpet spot treatment. Allow the cleaning solution to work on the carpet by leaving it for few minutes. This should help loosen the carpet stains, making them easier to remove.

Fill the machine’s hose or reservoir with hot tap water. Follow the instructions provided on the wet-cleaner machine. This is part of your carpet care, to ensure that it is safely cleaned. When the machine is ready, position it on the carpet and turn the switch on.

Using a back and forth motion, maneuver the machine on the carpet. Make sure that you cover the entire carpet including the areas that do not have carpet stains. This is to ensure that there are no uneven areas on the carpet when it is dry.

To thoroughly clean the carpet, have it ran over with the machine several times. This may include stopping many times to dry out the dirty water and refill it with clean water.

You can also maximize the amount of water removed from the carpet with water-extraction pass with water spray on, and spray off. You can do a test with your hand, to determine the water content of the carpet.

Press your hand on the carpet. If it comes with droplets of water upon lifting your hand, you need to work on the extraction of water with spray off. Do this until your hand does not come off with water from the carpet. Carpet care needs patience, and it is not a minor task.

You have to let the carpet dry overnight before you let anyone walk on it. You can not place the furniture on it until it gets thoroughly dry. In order to make it dry easily, open the windows and turn on your ceiling fan or stand fan. Carpet care can be fun and rewarding especially when you know how to do it right.
