Keeping Cool With Outdoor Sun Shades

By: Shaded Nation Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

Outdoor sun shades are the must-have accessory for every garden this summer. They’re a beautiful alternative to the traditional British garden furniture (stripy parasol, crane-fly supports, the whole thing wobbling over lunch like a drunken uncle) †strong, attractive, modern and surprisingly affordable.
Outdoor sun shades are, as their name suggests, something more than a simple parasol. Outdoor sun shades are treated with a UV-resistant coating, which means they offer genuinely cool shade: unlike parasols and awnings, which simply trap heat. It’s the UV that causes the unpleasant â€boiling†sensation a person gets under fabric in direct sunlight (similar to the sense one has on waking up in a hot tent) : UV-resistant outdoor sun shades, by removing the component of the sun’s light that does the damage, ensure that people relaxing under them feel genuinely comfortable.
Outdoor sun shades look better than traditional garden furniture, too. Outdoor sun shades resemble a sailboat’s sail †they look like an al fresco installation, some kind of modern art sculpture hanging over the patio or garden. Generally, outdoor sun shades are triangular (though they can be cut to any shape) and arranged so that they look like sails taut in the wind. Larger areas can be covered by series of outdoor sun shades, gathered in rows like the rigging on a clipper †the rows make overlapping shadows, which add to the artistic effect.
Because they’re strong, and properly treated with weather resistant preparations, outdoor sun shades should last for years †unlike the garden furniture they are going to be replacing. Buying outdoor sun shades is an investment, like installing a pagoda or decking area: outdoor sun shades, because of their longevity, become a part of the integral design of the garden, rather than just a bit of furniture to throw out there when the sun comes out. Indeed, outdoor sun shades offer perfect dry areas in which to shelter from autumnal showers †so when the long hot days of summer have bitten the dust again for another year, one’s outdoor sun shades, rather than being consigned to the shed, can actually prolong the amount of days a person can realistically spend enjoying the fresh air.
Outdoor sun shades, then, aren’t just an excellent alternative to summer garden furniture †they represent an entirely different way of utilising man-made material in outdoor spaces. Outdoor sun shades create attractive, striking areas of protection from all sorts of weather †which means even the British garden can be enjoyed all year round.
