Keyhole Peeping

By: Casey Pleque Home | Home-and-Family

It is reassuring to note the debate over the growing use of surreptitious surveillance camera devices. It is good to know that, in spite of the very valid security concerns people everywhere must face today, there are still those who instinctively feel that the use of hidden surveillance cameras is just plain wrong. nnAs children, most of us were taught that peeking through keyholes was a bad. Regardless of what you found, you could face the consequences if you are caught pursuing it. A friend of mine, who was always being shooed away by his older sister, had developed a habit of standing on an empty wooden crate in his backyard to look into her bedroom window whenever her girlfriends came over. On one occasion, he discovered his fourteen-year old sister and her two best friends sharing a cigarette. Armed with this information, he ran into the kitchen to tell their mother. Immediately thereafter I was ordered to go home since my friend and his sibling were disciplined. nnIronically, concerned parents who purchase and install nanny cameras without informing their baby sitters are the same people who complain that the use of hidden security cameras in their place of work is an invasion of their privacy. Bosses have always been capable of discerning hard workers from unproductive ones by evaluating what they production. The same may not always be true in the case of childcare providers, child abuse takes many forms and is not always detectable, but why not let the nanny know? It will improve the performance of their duties. If your babysitter is an abuser of any kind, be it drug, alcohol, or child abuser, she will most likely let you know if she finds out you have installed a surveillance camera. Do not hesitate to catch the care provider in the act, the child will be saved if you act sooner than later. nnSecurity cameras, hidden or not, have been used for decades in public places like banks and department stores. This is a much needed device for catching robbers, shoplifters, and all criminals at hand. The presence of the surveillance cameras is universally known, even to potential thieves. This type of security surveillance is reassuring to the general public. It makes catching a criminal easy when it does not deter criminal activity. The recent widespread use of surveillance cameras as home security fulfills the same need. Many homes that have alarm or video surveillance monitors will indicate this equipment by a sign on their front lawn. They know this will reduce the risk of vandalism and burglary.nnHidden camera surveillance systems are entirely different than a camera surveillance system that is used for proper security purposes. Digital and technological advances have produced increasingly smaller and more affordable gadgets that some people just cant resist playing with. Dont peep through the keyhole. It is not correct. Knock on the door first.
