Kid Sport Team Plaques Make Everyone A Champion

By: Andi Beark Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Many youth sports programs are trending toward recognizing the significant contributions of every player in order to promote good character. Particularly with the younger age groups, recognizing every skill gained can enhance the pure enjoyment of the game, and the future development of those skills. Words of encouragement, small tokens of recognition or team plaques are all valuable tools in developing team spirit and a lasting love for the game.

Individual Contributions
When the time is taken to recognize each member's contribution to a team, it shows team members that the coach is engaged in them personally, and that their individual talents matter to the success of the entire team. Rather than the same award for each participant, individual and personalized certificates of merit can be placed into presentation plaques to create lasting memories. Athletic achievement can be recognized as well as the many outstanding characteristics exhibited on and off the field:

- Devotion
- Never quitting
- Timeliness
- Improvement
- Positive attitude
- Helping others
- Graciousness toward other teams
- Respect
- Fairness
- Honesty
- Passion for the game

Planting Desire
In the early stages of team play, team plaques help reinforce the team bond and a desire to be a part of a larger whole. It is a tool in acknowledging hard work completed and can encourage a hunger for the hard work ahead. Encouragement of both athletic skill and character can become a powerful tool in a winning strategy while winning is on the mind of the players. Giving recognition can deepen the trust and communication with the players which is beneficial in many ways:

- Assures that they are always listening
- Keeps interest
- Deepens the coach-player bond
- Deepens the desire to improve

Promoting Skills
Much like in the business world, recognizing individual achievements can highlight and promote the skills you wish to advance and create friendly competition and spread the desire to improve in certain areas. Every member will be striving for a new best, ensuring the level of excellence is always on the rise. Using team plaques to highlight skills can be beneficial in many ways:

- Creates an environment of ready learners
- Provides an opportunity to showcase what is done right as opposed to knocking mistakes
- Motivates young athletes to new levels of ability
- Gives the child an opportunity to feel special and successful
- Public praise is lasting praise and is an opportunity to make a long term impact in a life

Winning Spirit
There are many ways to create a winning spirit in the heart of youth. When their hard work is recognized, they are more likely to desire to continue in the sport and advance their skills. Part of great sportsmanship is realizing that no one member wins the game: it is the talent of every member. Team plaques provide a valuable life lesson in the value of each team member and the personal responsibility to bring your best. This life lesson will help the child all throughout their adult life as well.

To recognize the team for all their hard work, the coaches gave an award certificate to each child on the team. To show appreciation from the parents, custom plagues were given to the coaches and a special one given to the entire team.
