Whenever you switch on the television, browse any website, or even flip through any lifestyle magazine; you always come across colorful advertisements, reports and full-page articles specifically dedicated to Feng Shui. We wonder if these things can actually elevate and enhance the quality of our lives and we go ahead and listen or read things on this subject that can help us in achieving a good way of leading a healthy life. It is true that we have heard a lot about Feng Shui in our daily lives and also come across many programs on it. Still some questions are left unanswered. We wonder, what exactly is feng shui? Well, it means air and water and in ancient times, it was known as Kan-Yu that means the law of heaven and earth. It is a discipline with guidelines that are compatible with many techniques of architectural planning, as well as internal furniture arrangements. The basic components of it are space, weather, astronomy, and geomagnetism. Proponents claim that it has a positive effect on health, wealth, and personal relationships. That is why many people are following this form of cosmology. Today there are many schools that teach the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony within the environment. Earlier, it relied on astronomy to find correlations between humans and the universe. In fact, Chinese often used the celestial pole to determine the north and south axis of settlements. The aim of feng shui as practiced and followed today, is to situate the human built environment on spots with good qi. Well there is also a perfect spot, which is a location and an axis in time. In fact, some current techniques can be traced back to Neolithic China, while others were added in later times, mostly during the rein of Han, the Tang and the Ming dynasties. To determine the perfect spot, local manifestations of qi must be assessed for quality. The quality is further determined by observations made by compass known as Luopan. However, Qi is a difficult to translate and hence is left is untranslated. The word means air. In feng shui, Qi means flow of energy. The compass is used to determine many things, including the detection of the direction of the flow of qi. Thus, compasses reflect local geomagnetism, which includes geomagnetically induced currents caused by space weather. Moreover, it could be said that it assesses the quality of the local environment and the effects of space weather -- that is, feng shui is qimancy, or qi divination. Further beliefs hold that the heavens influence life on earth. The classical feng shui is typically associated with various techniques like relationship of the five phases or wuxing, wuxing relationships, time and many more. In the end, you can say that it is this technique through which you can lead a great life and overcome the obstacles easily which was earlier difficult to achieve. Hence, it has become an integral part of one's life.
