Lean To Save Energy Using Solar Panels

By: Britney Simpson Home | Business | Entrepreneur

As we move into the future, there are certain problems that have come to the forefront like depletion of natural resources and energy fuels like coal and wood. If we cut all the trees then there will be a major climatic shift, which might endanger human lives and there is a short supply of coal. Due to melting and recession of glaciers, the water quantity has also started to deplete. In such a scenario using solar pannels will help save lot of energy.

Today the world is looking at solar powered instruments and technology because this is the only type of energy that will last for another million years and sustains life on the planet. But how does solar pannels work? Basically, a solar panel has multiple solar cells also known as photovoltaic cells that can directly convert the sunlight into electricity. This process of conversion is known as the photovoltaic effect. So each cell in a solar panel will effectively convert sunlight into electricity and can be used for lighting your home, running electronic equipments, air-conditioning, running a car, and much more.

If you are planning to buy solar powered panels for your home or office then you need to consider certain aspects that will influence your decision. These aspects are:

Cost of the panel: One of the most important aspects is the cost of the solar pannels. The cost will vary according to the type, durability, and size of the solar panel. If you choose to buy an amorphous solar panel then it will definitely be expensive as compared to the most commonly used polycrystalline solar panel.

Durability: The durability is an important factor although most solar powered panels including monocrystalline solar panels, polycrystalline solar panel, and amorphous solar panel come with a lifetime guarantee.

Size: The size of the solar panels plays an important role in determining the maximum wattage. So if you have a minimum requirement like you want to just light your home then a 190 watt panel will be fine but if your requirement is much smaller then you can do with a 50 watt panel.

Type: There are mainly three types of solar pannels and they are:

â€Monocrystalline Solar Panels: This type of solar panel is made from large crystals of silicon and is considered to be the most efficient.
â€Polycrystalline Solar Panels: Instead of a single large crystal, this type of solar panel consists of multiple small silicon crystals. They are the most common type of solar powered panels available in the market today.
â€Amorphous Solar Panels: This type of panel consists of a thin film that is made from molten silicon. This is normally used in vehicles and different modes of transportation.

The overall efficiency of all the three types of solar panels is:
â€Monocrystalline- 18%
â€Polycrystalline- 15%
â€Amorphous (thin-film)- 10%
