Learn How To Decorate And Beautify Kids Room Effortlessly

By: Camille Apicella Home | Kids-and-Teens

There are certain things you must keep in mind while decorating a kid's room. There are just a few rules - you can interpret them any way you want, and experiment with them any way you like, but learn those rules first, then break them according to your wishes. There are certain do's and don'ts to be observed when it comes to decorating, so here are some tips to get that perfect room for your child.

Make a basic plan, and sketch it out in full detail. Note down the room's dimensions, window sizes, location of electrical outlets, etc. You will need these while doing the actual decoration. Do your research - browse through interior decorating websites, read magazines and visit stores to find out what kind of room you'd like for your son or daughter. Get your child's involvement, listen to his/her artistic interests and styles - as it's their room, their opinion counts. Pay attention to what they have to say about kid's wall stickers, wall murals, wall decals and the kid's room decor. It's very important - the discovery of personal style. Make a decision upon a theme with your child and fix upon the focal point- that is, where the theme will be focused most - perhaps a particular wall, the bed or even the study-table. Figure out the color scheme - decide a primary color and a secondary color and coordinate the rest of the room with it. Colors can make a huge difference, and a nice color palette will please anyone! Coordinate fabrics and flooring with the colors, consult with professionals regarding paint colors. Keep the room's colors in mind when going shopping for the furniture or draperies, and do the coordination.

You'll also need to allow for natural pathways in a room - don't cram the room up with furniture of all sorts - how will your child walk from the bed to the door? Arrange the furniture with some planning. Also, consider the room's uses and functions, before fixing upon arrangements and furnishings. Is the child's room also going to be where he studies? Then you'll need to make necessary arrangements for lighting. The kid's room decor is very important, so use the principle of repetition. Think of it this way - if you use blue just once in the room, perhaps near a particular corner - it will seem almost like an afterthought, but if you use blue near the book-case, near one wall, in the kid's wall stickers, near the windows, and in the kid's mural - it will contribute to the general color scheme. And remember to buy the best furniture you can afford - it doesn't help to scrimp on that - you want furniture for your kid that'll last for some time at least, right? Then do your research, learn about quality materials that can increase the life of furniture - this will ensure that in the long run, you make a better buy.

Try to use different kinds of textures in the room - rough, smooth, shiny, etc. This will make the room more interesting. Play down the unattractive parts, and put emphasis on the attractive parts. Constantly reinforce the theme with appropriate murals, furniture, and accessories. If you keep these basic points in mind, you are all set to give your child the best room he/she could hope for!
