Now you've made the decision to learn how to play a guitar you need to look at what the fundamental requirements are. If you decided that you want to learn electric guitar with an online guitar course and want to learn some blitzing rock riffs then you need to make sure the course teaches that style. If you are interested in learning to play acoustic guitar with a personal tutor make sure to choose your teacher accordingly. Just be sure that whatever teaching system you choose teaches the musical style that interests you or you will very soon become bored.
