Learning The Correct Layout For Brochure Printing

By: charen smith Home | Business | Advertising

Do you know how to do the proper layout for color brochure printing? The layout for brochure printing is very different from other simpler types of prints such as booklets and catalogs. With the nature of brochures as they are, you need a specific kind of thinking that is quite distinct from other types of printing. If you want to learn the right kind of layout attitude and techniques for brochure printing, then just read on and learn how to do it yourself.

Know your goals †The first step to a correct layout for color brochures is knowing your goals. This basically means that you should have a logical flow of concepts and arguments that lead to a specific goal that you want your reader to achieve. This can be something like a sales goal where the reader will be tempted to buy something, or it can be just about information awareness, ending in your readers knowing what you want them to understand. This will help immensely in any layout decision since you will not what to emphasize in your layout and what are just supporting details.

Write your outline †One you have a definitive goal, you should then write your outline. This will become the component parts of your layout as your brochure development advances. Try separating your main topics through headlines and then specifying your arguments by creating subheadings. Make sure that you have a nice logical flow that achieves your goals. Once you are finished with your outline, doing your layout should be easier.

Follow the reading path †When the outline is done, you can now properly create your layout. In most cases, you will have to follow the reading path of people so that the brochure layout can be as effective as it can be to catch reader's attention. The reading path for brochures typically goes from top to bottom for each individual panel and them left to right among panels.

So for a typical trifold brochure for example, you will start with the cover panel first going top to bottom with your outline, and then going to the inside panels left to right as you add in content. Finally it ends with the panel flap and then the back panel itself. This is the usual reading path that people take in reading color brochures. It is important not to skip panels so that you won't confuse the readers and jump suddenly to a topic.

Looking at sample layouts †If you want more ideas about the layouts for brochures, you might just want to browse and look at other examples. While lots of people use trifold brochures, there are some unique and quite beautiful layouts that use other types of brochure folds such as French folds, Gate folds and Z folds. Looking at these other sample layouts should give you nice ideas on how to do your own in brochure printing. You may want to try the Internet as the fastest and best source of sample layouts for color brochures.

Great! Now you know a little bit about brochure printing and how to make the correct layout. Try to follow the examples above, but do not be afraid to experiment with other layouts as well. Good Luck!
