A rider in a leather motorcycle jacket is the archetypical ideal of a motorcycle rider. However, many of these jackets are uncomfortable. Does a jacket exist that is cool looking, comfortable and safe? When you're choosing your leather motorcycle jacket, one of your first concerns should be safety. Always choose a jacket with leather that is at least a millimeter thick, which will protect your skin in a crash. A drawback to leather motorcycle jackets is their lack of protective armor. There are some that do feature it however. You should look for semi rigid armor that doesn't shift when you move, in the back and chest. If you are worried about your leather staying intact in the rain, there are now some jackets available that are waterproof. These jackets are only being produced by a few manufacturers at this point. What length of jacket you should go with is up to some debate. There are both half size and three quarter length jackets. A half size jacket will give you less storage space, but is classic and stylish. There are also advantages to a three quarter jacket. This is the style to get if you have a bit of a gut, and some of us do. There are also many more pockets, and better protection for a longer ride. A black leather motorcycle jacket may be traditional, but you can find one in any color out there. There are also jackets that have team colors and logos so that you can show your pride. A leather motorcycle jacket may be a traditional piece of riding gear, but modern motorcycle jackets are anything but. There are many different styles and options to fit any rider.
