Most people do not realize that they can obtain life insurance without exams, medical tests, urine samples, blood draws, EKG's and in some cases a stress test may be required to obtain coverage. Most agents do not explain the tests that most insurance carriers require in order to obtain coverage. If you have never applied for coverage it is important to understand the process so that you are aware of what tests will and may be required in order to obtain coverage. I am a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) for over 35 years. I have advised individuals, families, businesses, corporations, municipalities, cities and towns. I am an independent insurance broker representing most major insurance carriers. When you apply for life insurance most insurance companies require an application, an examination, blood pressure readings, urine, a blood test, your motor vehicle driver records from the state and information about your medical history form the medical information bureau (MIB) This article will review the medical tests that will and may be required in order to be accepted for your life insurance. In most cases when you apply your agent will set up an appointment with you and a paramedical organization approved and paid for by the insurance company to do your examination. What most people do not realize is that the insurance company will send the least qualified person to do your exam as possible to save money. If the amount of coverage is small they will send a technician qualified to draw blood to do your exam. It is only when they feel that the insurance amount is high, to their standards, that they will send a nurse and very rarely do they send a doctor. So in essence they the insurance company is sending the least qualified person to do your exam. The medical professional will weigh you, take your height, take your blood pressure, take a urine sample and draw blood. In some cases the insurance company will require an EKG. This stranger, who you do not even know what their qualifications are, will half undress you in order to do this EKG. In some rare occasions when the amount of coverage is in the millions and the applicant is older the insurance company may even require a stress test. What is not known by most is that the insurance company does many more tests on your urine sample and your blood than even your own doctor does when you go for your annual exam. The insurance company tests your urine for nicotine and illegal drugs while your physician would never do these tests. The insurance company tests your blood for the HIV virus, liver function tests that your doctor will not test for such as hepatitis unless you have symptoms. They will also test for illegal drugs that your urine may not be able to detect and your alcohol readings as well. When you sign your application you have consented to do all tests that the carrier feels are appropriate to perform in order for them to make a decision for your application. Therefore, all these tests that are performed on your samples are legal and consented to by the applicant. In my opinion it just may be easier and quicker to go to web sites such and www.lifeinsurancewithoutexams.com or www.lifeinsurancenomedicalexams.com to obtain coverage if you are seeking a term policy for $250,000 or less or a whole life plan in the amount of $50,000 or less.
