Step 1. Define your goal. Step 2. Find a plan of action to achieve your goal. Step 3. Follow the plan. The 3 step system above is a way for many people to start to understand the process to achieve success in any goal. But, it doesn't give you any clues as to what the plan should include. I've read books and listened to audio recordings, as I'm sure you have also. Any many times you come away inspired, but without the actual tools or steps to follow to achieve your goals. There are many steps to achieving your goals, many of them are extremely specific to each individual goal, so it can be very difficult to go through this process in an article such as this. But are several overriding, core values, or core principles that you must do to get to the very top of your own success tree. This article is about one of those principles. It is the principle about the link and the two way effect your mind and your body have on each other. You know that when you do something bad to your body, such as lack of sleep or drink too much alcohol, the next day your mind is not as sharp as it normally is. And that if you continue to punish your body this way, you will end up seeing an overall decline in your mental ability. The sad thing is that you may not notice this for some time. And then, one day, you realize that you have lost your edge. Lets get your edge back. Lets improve your mind through improving your body and your health, so that you no longer feel the need or want, to do those things that reduce your minds ability to function at its peak. There are two parts to this process. 1. What you put into your body. 2. What you do with your body. Lets take part 1 to begin with. One of the first things that you need to do is to increase your intake of water. Not coffee, not tea, not cola, not lemonade. Just regular water. If you prefer bottled water because of where you live (maybe the quality of the tap water is of a low standard), then buy bottled water. I'm not expecting you to suddenly drink 2 liters of water a day from day 1, but you can substitute 2 or 3 of your other regular drinks with water each day. You will naturally start to drink more water as you start to see the positive effects. Since we are talking about goal setting, lets set this as a goal. You need to let your mind know that you are serious about becoming more successful and getting more out of life. If you can't start down your road to success by drinking a little more water each day, you may need to start looking more deeply as to why this is so hard for you. So, now you are drinking more water each day. Do this for a few days, then start improving your diet. Maybe eat slightly smaller portions for each meal. Some of the meals we eat are way too large for our stomachs, and we definitely do not need all of the energy in the amount food we are eating. Reduce portion size. Improve the quality of the food. Eat more leafy green vegetables. I know it all sounds bad, but if you do it gradually over time, you will not notice a sudden "shock" of this change of diet. Other areas where you can improve the food you eat is to eat less fat, eat less sugar and eat better quality carbohydrates. Lets move on to point 2. What you do with your body. The first thing to do is to start moving. I'm not talking about running 10 miles. I'm talking about starting gradually, and slowly over weeks and months increase the amount of movement that you do. Maybe start walking down your street, then around the block, then start increasing the pace at which you walk. Lets turn this into a goal. Once again, you want to train your mind into setting goals and then achieving them. You do not want to set unrealistic goals that you cannot follow through with, and then end up failing. This will only reinforce your belief that you cannot achieve, rather than the reality that you can achieve your goals. Now, the key here is that with these two paths (the body and the mind), you will have double reinforcement that you can achieve goals you set. Your body will feel stronger, and this will give you a greater sense of self worth. The self worth will give you more drive to continue on your road to having a far greater commitment to improving your health and vitality. Step 1. Define your goal. Step 2. Find a plan of action to achieve your goal. Step 3. Follow the plan. Begin with Step 1. There is a lot of information and tools around on these subjects, and other success related topics.
