Looking Into The Differences Between A Condenser Mic And A Dynamic Microphone.

By: Alice Brooks Home | Arts-and-Entertainment | Music

There are number of important things that you need to have if you are an aspiring musician aiming to record your songs in the comfort of your own home. You have to keep in mind that in audio recording, among high quality equipment, pro audio microphones are among the essentials that you should have. If you want only the best for your own home recording studio, then you should get a condenser mic. This type of microphone is more sensitive to sound compared to the more conventional dynamic microphone.

Before you buy your high quality equipment/pro audio microphone, you need to understand how this device works. You will need to grasp the importance of getting a condenser mic instead of a dynamic microphone. A microphone is a device that works by converting audio into an electrical signal, and they are used in hearing aids, telephones, movie manufacturing, and tape recorders as well as in the dissemination of radio and TV media. A microphone can also have a condenser, which is also known as a capacitor. This is an electrical device that works by storing energy in an electrostatic field. Most, if not all, of the microphones that have condensers are being operated with the use of an external or an outside source like a battery.

Because it is more sensitive to sound, a condenser mic is known to be exceptionally capable at the detection and capture of even the smallest sounds, even those that could not be heard by the human ear. In this role, as a piece of high quality equipment, pro audio microphones are used mostly for musical works that do not have that much volume. A microphone that contains a condenser is comprised of two plates that have voltages running back and forth between them. The plate that has been created using the lighter material is the one that acts as the diaphragm of the microphone, which when hit with sound waves, causes the change between the distance and the capacitance of the plates. When these plates are brought near to each other, the capacitance is heightened. However, when brought apart, there will be a decrease of the capacitance and the occurrence of a discharge current.

There is also another kind of condenser mic that you should know about and this is the electret condenser microphone. Also a part of essential high quality equipment/ pro audio microphones, it does not need an electric charge from an outside source because it has been designed to have a voltage system built permanently inside. There are other types of condenser microphones as well that are better than dynamic microphones and the most universally used among them is the MC834. This is usually used as the mike for brass instruments, piano strings, and backup vocals. Musicians who would like to record their songs or music at home can use this kind of microphone. Another type of condenser microphone that a home recording artist could also use is the one that contains a gradient capacitor and is not polarized internally or has a transformer.
