Low Cost Solar Panels - Are All Cheap Stuff Bad?

By: John Greenspan Home | Home-and-Family

Every day, low cost solar panels are picked up by unfortunate souls who want a piece of the action. These cheap items become bait for poor consumers who are not willing to spend money to install solar energy panels on their property. However I won't say most of these low cost panels are lousy. At least there are some exceptions.

These exceptions I'm talking about cannot be bought from retail stores. You must construct them using your own hands. As you've probably guessed by now, I'm talking about homemade solar energy panels. Here is a class of panels that are ridiculously cheap yet reliable.

For a long time, homeowners have taken on the challenge of coming up with new ways to lower the cost of energy in their homes. Farmers of old used to paint their pipes black and lay them on their backyard so they can get warm water as the pipes absorb energy from the sun. Today, we have photovoltaic technology to help us. And we're fortunate to have DIY instructional guides to help us build our own solar energy panels for use at home.

With these instructional guides, what was considered trade secret is now in the public domain. People like you and me can now make our own panels to supply our household with electricity by tapping energy from the sun. Even a novice can pick up these materials and build himself a solar power generator by following the instructions to the tee.

If you are interested in making your own low cost solar panels, you can start by identifying a south facing roof to install your panels. This should be an easy task. If this is not possible, a backyard that is not shaded by vegetation will suffice.

After that, you can give yourself a little education by investing in an excellent instructional guide. With it, you can save thousands of dollars on your solar power hardware. This is because you can find tips on where to get cheap and good materials. Rather than hiring professionals to install your photovoltaic panels, you can apply some elbow grease and do it yourself.

A beautiful thing about building your own low cost solar panels is that you are almost always able to build one for under $200 - which is a big deal! Once you are acquainted with the basics, you can build more panels with less effort, expanding what you already have into a larger system. With many photovoltaic panels working for you, you can even live entirely on renewable energy. The local power station may even pay you for the excess you generate for the grid.
