The maid of honor enjoys a great privilege as right hand women to the bride, but are you aware of all the duties & responsibilities the role brings? You will have to spend a lot of time with the best man as your duties will be similar & you will have to work together to ensure the smooth running of the wedding day. So after you have gotten over the excitement & been to pick out your dress, it is time to start planning your duties. Here is a list of typical duties the maid of honor will need to carry out. You should be on hand to help the bride shop for hers & yours dresses & accessories. You should also attend the dress fittings. You should be available to help put together the invitations, wedding favors, centerpieces & anything else the bride requires help with. You will be responsible for organizing & throwing bridal showers & bachelorette parties. If the couple decides they want a combined party then you should work with the best man to organize it. You will be in charge of noting down who gave which gift at the bridal parties. It is also your responsibility to send out the thank cards. You will be in charge of the grooms ring during the wedding ceremony. The best man is responsible for the brides ring. You will be required, along with the best man, to be witnesses to the marriage, unless you are related to the bride or groom. Tradition requires the maid of honor & best man dance together at the reception. If you have never been maid of honor before & you need help with your duties & planning, make sure you ask for help from those around you such as the brides mother or the other bridesmaids.
