Striped bass, otherwise known as stripers, are a member of the temperature bass family. Though they breed in freshwater locations, the vast majority spend the remainder of their lives in saltwater. Adult stripers prefer waters around 63 degrees Fahrenheit, and it is well worth seeking out areas around this temperature, as it is here that you are most likely to land a big striped bass. Maine is renowned for its striper fishing opportunities, with a wide range of locations on offer for the beginner and seasoned veteran alike. Penobscot River is known as a striped bass hotspot, as is the Augusta Boat Landing, Parsons Beach and Scarborough River Jetty. Other stretches of the Scarborough River are also known to be good for striped bass. Fishing along Maine's coastline can also yield good results, though it is important to do your homework before heading out to avoid disappointment.
