Prints help protect the wear tear and the loss of your original work, which may happen due to recurrent display and the carriage of the artwork. Moreover, you may produce as many copies of your artwork as you want, by printing them. Techniques for making the prints of your works. You usually require several impression casts to prepare the prints of your work. These casts are the impressions drawn with some sharp tool, usually on a Metal Plate, mostly made of Copper or Steel. Now, a Dye or a Color or Ink is filled in these etchings on the Metal Plates. Papers or clothes are then pressed against these dyed impressions to make the prints of your work. Some common methods in use for making the prints of your work are: Aquatint - This produces prints that look comparable to the paintings done with Watercolors or India ink. For making the prints of your work through Aquatint, the artwork is scratched on a Copper and Zinc Plate with Aqua Fortis, an acid. The acid eats into the metal and roughens it. The duration of the stay of Ink or Dye on the Plate decides the depth of its impression on the Display Medium. Dry point - In this technique for making the prints of your work, the subject of the artwork is drawn directly into a Copper Plate, with the help of a hardened Steel Stylus. This displaces the metal, producing a Burr. The lines obtained on the Cast are slightly fuzzy. These lines are then transferred to papers, when they are pressed on to the Engraved Plate. This technique was used in old books and newspapers. Giclee - Giclee is a French word meaning, "to spray." This technique for making prints of your work uses an Ink-Jet Printer to make the prints of your work. The image of your artwork has to be digitally captured, in order to get the print. Giclee offers continuous color patterns without dots. Lithograph - In this technique for making the prints of your work, you draw on a Flat Stone with the help of a Greasy Crayon. The stone is then covered with Dye or Ink. The block is finally covered with water to wash it off the ink. The Ink stays stuck only to the Crayon, as it is resistant to water. The rest of the Ink on the stone is washed off. Use this block to take prints. Mezzotint - This technique for making the prints of your work involves creating the highlights by Burnishing the Metal Piece. The Ink is then applied on these highlights to get the print. Silkscreen - In this, a Silk Mesh is used to pass ink through the printable area on to the paper. Wood Block Print - This technique for making the prints of your work, use a block of Linoleum. Carving is done for the nonprintable area. When the Ink is applied for printing, it colors only the area, which is not recessed. Offset Lithograph - This method is used to print Posters, Newspapers, and Magazines. In this method for making the print of your work, four Metal Plates are photographically etched and each plate is inked with different colors. Mixing is done to make more colors. The prints have dot-like patterns in them.
