Below are some changes to make to your diet that can help you lower your blood sugar.

1- Sweet Potatoes - starch vegetables which are high in vitamin A and fiber. Instead of eating a white potato eat a sweet potato instead.

2- Berries - blueberries, strawberries are full of antioxidants, vitamins and fiber. A good dessert would be low fat yogurt and blueberries.

3- Salmon and other fish are high in omega 3 fatty acids. Be sure to bake or broil your fish.

4- Whole grains such as barley and oat are loaded with fiber and potassium, magnesium, chromium, omega 3 fatty acids and folate.

5- Fat free milk and yogurt help build strong bones and teeth.

6- Beans such as kidney, pinto, navy and black beans are high in fiber, magnesium and potassium. If you do eat canned beans be sure to rinse and drain so to get rid of much of the salt.

7- Citrus Fruit such as grapefruit, lemons, oranges, and limes are full of vitamin C, iron and vitamin E.

8 - Nuts - a ounce of nuts can go a long way in providing healthy fats along with preventing you from becoming hungry.

9 - Dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, collards and kale are low in calories and carbohydrates.

10 - Tomato contains vitamin C, iron and vitamin E.

Take the work out of the diabetic meal plan. There are companies that have developed the diabetic meal plan because of the epidemic growth of diabetes.

Try this diet and lose 30 to 40 pounds, lower your blood sugar and even lower your cholesterol.
