Gender bias is a common known definition for men and women, sometimes though the understanding of it gets misinterpreted. So lets explain, gender is defined as the classification of sex. There are 2 sexes male and female. Bias is defined as an inclination by a person towards impartiality or prejudice. So gender bias is when a person, male or female, prefers one sex over the other. In technology, gender bias refers to a favoring of one sex over the other whether in computer use, software use, or internet use and the content in each. Since there are so many places to go to on the internet and so many different software programs gender bias in technology is a complex and growing issue. It seems as though no matter how far we come in genders being equal at some point you will see it again. Millions of people access the internet everyday, whether it is on the computer on the phone, or an I Pod people are always in constant access with the internet. Along with those people come their thoughts and ideas, unfortunately some people have bad feelings towards people of other genders which can cause issues in websites. Since the beginnings of history people have been discriminated against because of some reason or another. Whether it was because of a person’s race or a person’s gender it didn’t matter because in the earlier days of history it didn’t matter. In today’s era though we need to be conscious of these things not only because it is a good thing but also because other people don’t want to hear your judgments of others. If you want to get a website started a good idea is to check everything you have said and put onto your site, because you may have missed the slightest thing and it may make people not want to go back to your website. If you are writing an article about different jobs and say that well this man does this job, and this man does this job, and so on it would seem that you are being gender biased. So make sure that you include both sexes in your website don’t concentrate one gender.
